Postcards from the Edge…of the Table (First in a Series)

Gosh! Why didn’t I publish this post when I first started it?  When I am out and about travelling, I love sending postcards—something I picked up from my Mom.  Having just returned from Southeast Asia, I figure I should finally publish this post.  Better late than never…stay tuned for more!

Here are highlights of our trip via postcards sent to family and friends.

Bath and the Cotswolds

Not to be missed, Bath.  We took the train to Bath and made this beautiful city our home for 4 days.  It brought Downton Abby and Bridgerton to life!  Enchanting, make sure to take advantage of the free Mayor’s Tour in the morning. Meet at the town square for a two-hour walk and talk about Bath.  We spent a day visiting the Cotswold -Upper and Lower Slaughter, Bourton on the Water, and splurged on a car to take us around.

Top Left: Bath Abbey: Gothic church known for its stained glass and fan-vaulted ceiling. Breathtaking marvel.

The Royal Crescent and The Circus: Phenomenal buildings that are residences, Georgian architecture.

The Food! Still holds true today, absolutely delicious seafood at the Scallop Shell, and one of the best bakeries I have visited ever, Landrace Bakery and Restaurant, locally sourced wheat they mill themselves. Get their Cardamon Buns-exquisite.

Roman Baths and City Centre: Over 2000 years old, the Roman Baths are the heart of Bath.  Taking advantage of the geothermal springs, Bath became the place to go for rejuvenation and relaxation.

Not pictured: There are some fabulous bookstores in Bath and a Jane Austen Museum that is fun to visit for Austen-philes.

The Globe in London

An Evening of Shakespeare at the Globe.  Just because.

Women Run Japanese Udon Noodle Bar

Delicious breakfast of noodles, grilled fish, and perfectly cooked Onsen Egg at Koya SohoPerfect way to start the day.

A Taste of India

Like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, London’s dining scene is fabulous and diverse.  We had wonderful Indian food at Gunpower and at Dishoom (breakfast and dinner).  Love the simplicity of Bun Maska Chai.  A hot steaming cup of chai and a buttered warm bun, Iranian in origin, is my idea of the perfect breakfast.

The Churchill War Rooms are quite interesting. The rooms where it happened during World War II.  Dinner with Joan and George at The Barbary, North African food, absolutely delicious.

London

A play at the West End , a Tottenham Spurs game (Harry and Son together for the last time), and the Natural History Museum-perfect for families. It’s free, but book your tickets ahead of time!  Lunch at Ottolenghi Islington was both visually lovely and delicious.  The eggplant with pomegranate and roasted salmon were favs.  Make sure to save room for dessert.
